Past events for 2015-2016

  • Relay for Life - On the 13th/14th April, the Archaeology Society had a team present for the 24 hour relay for the Irish Cancer Society
  • Welcome Back Drinks
On Thursday February 11th the Society had welcome back drinks for all society members in UCD Clubhouse from 6pm! Free wristbands were provided for entry to a nightclub in town later on in the night
  • International Trip: Prague
This year the society went on a trip to Prague from the 10th-15th January, 
  • UCD Archaeology Society Inaugural Seminar and Launch of Trowel Volume XVI
On Thursday 5th November the UCD archaeology Society's Inaugural Seminar was given by guest speaker Howard Williams from the University of Chester on "Cyborg Smiths: Bone, Stone, Metal and Memory in Early Medieval Britain". This was followed by a wine reception and the launch of the UCD School of Archaeology's Journal Trowel, Volume XVI
  • Halloween Samhain Festival of Fire
On Saturday 31st October the Society went on a trip to the Hill of Ward for the Samhain Festival of Fire
  • Halloween Ball
On Wednesday 28th October, the archaeology society hosted a Halloween Ball along with the Classical Society, Games Society and Philosophy Society

  • Archaeology Vs Classics
On Monday 12th October the Archaeology Society and Classics Society went head to head for a soccer match, the victory was ours!

  • Archaeology Film Soc Week
Week 6 of term was the collaboration week between the Archaeology Society and Film Society. The events for the week included a showing of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and a Movie Trivia quiz on Tuesday 13th October, then on Thursday 15th October there was a showing of The Mummy

  • Newgrange Trip
On Sunday 11th October the Society took a trip out to visit Newgrange and Knowth

  • Annual Bowling Night
On Tuesday 29th September, the Society had its annual Bowling Night, including dinner at Eddie Rockets and bowling and pool at Leisure Plex in Stillorgan

  • Dublinia Museum
The first trip of the year was on Saturday 26th September to the Dublinia Museum in Dublin City Centre

  • AGM
The AGM is taking place on Friday 24th April.  See all details regarding standing for elections for the new committee here.

  • Classics VS Archaeology soccer match
On Tuesday 7th April, the Archaeology and Classics society will face each other in a soccer match on the astro-pitch in front of the UCD Sports Centre. View the poster here.
  • Charity bake sale in aid of BodyWhys
On Wednesday 24th February, as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, the Society is organising a bake sale in aid of BodyWhys. All information here. 
  • Day trip to Uisneach and Tlachtga
On Saturday 21st February the Society is going to Uisneach and Tlachtga. All information available here. 
  • Charity bake sale in aid of BodyWhys
On Wednesday 24th February, as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, the Society is organising a bake sale in aid of BodyWhys. All information here.

  • Welcome back to UCD night out
On Wednesday 28th January, the Society will meet in the UCD Clubhouse bar for some reunion drinks! We have the Trophy Area booked from 7pm onwards. Come and join us! Entry to a nightclub in town is being organised for those who wish to party through the night.

  • Refreshers Day 2015
You missed the Society Stall at Fresher's Fair back in September? No worries! We will be in the Astra Hall on Tuesday 27th January and you can join the Society at any time!
  • Annual trip abroad: Madrid!
The destination for the 2014-2015 trip abroad has been announced: MADRID! More information here.
  • Archaeology Christmas party!!
This year, the Society has teamed up with the UCD Clubhouse Bar to offer you the perfect way to chill out after the last assignments of the semester. On Wednesday 26th November, we will have our end of term Christmas party, check all the details here. 

  • Inaugural Lecture and Launch of Trowel XV
On Thursday 20th November, the Society welcomed Prof. Chris Scarre who delivered the Society inaugural lecture. The lecture was followed by the launch of Trowel volume XV. All details here.
  • Society Trip to Carlow
On Saturday 15th November, we will be heading for a day trip to Co. Carlow. All details here.

  • Samhain Festival of Fire
This year, the Society will be organising a trip to the Hill of Ward on the 31st of October in order to attend the Samhain Festival of Fire. All details here. Read the report here

  • Essay writing seminar
During the coffee morning of Wednesday 22nd October,  an essay-writing seminar and workshop took place. It is free to attend and everyone is welcome.  All details here.

  • Pub quiz with the Classical Society
On Wednesday 22nd of October, hosted a pub quiz with the Classics Society. All details here. 

  • Burger and Bowling night
On Tuesday 7th October, we are heading to Stillorgan for a burger dinner and a relaxed evening of bowling and pool. All the event details can be found here.

  • Welcome drinks!
In order to welcome everyone to and back to the Society, we are hosting Welcome Drinks in the UCD Clubhouse on Wednesday 17th September, from 6pm onwards! All welcome! More information here.

  • End of year table quiz

The Society's end of year Table Quiz took place on Thursday 24th April, along with our weekly coffee morning and our study seminar for Semester 2. See the photographs here.

  • AGM 2014
The Society's Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday 17th April.You can now read the report and the results of the elections here.

  • Charity bake sale in aid of ASH animal shelter.

  • The Small Societies Masquerade Ball !!
 It took at the Arlington Hotel, O'Connell Bridge on Thursday, January 30th Thursday, March 6th. See the photrographs here.

  • Trip to Trim Castle & more
The first trip of semester 2 is a day out to visit Trim Castle, the Spire of Lloyd and Loughcrew megalithic complex. It is taking place on Saturday 6th March. See the photographs here

  • TROWEL
The 25th anniversary edition of TROWEL will be launched on Thursday 5th December. All the details can be found here. 

  • Competition time!
A photograph competition was organised. You can see the winners here.

  •  Historical walking tour of Dublin
Historical and Archaeological tour of Dublin's north side, including O'Connell Street, Moore Street and Smithfields. Saturday 16th of November. All details here

  • Second night out of the year
Burger and bowling ! Wednesday 6th of November. All the details HERE.

The Society joined hands with the Association of Small Societies at UCD to give you a night to remember for Halloween this year! It took place in Kiely's in Mount Merrion and included fancy dress competition, Halloween games and tons of pizza for a meagre 5€ from you. All the photographs can be found HERE.

  • Guest talk
Wednesday, October 2nd, our weekly coffee morning included a talk by Dr. Franc Myles from the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland.

  • Freshers coffee morning!
**Special event** In order for all our first-years to get to know each other, and in order to give them a proper welcome to UCD School of Archaeology, we have organised a Freshers Coffee Morning on Tuesday 24th of September. It will take place in the Blue Room of the New Student Centre.
