Trips and Tours 2015/2016

  • Knockroe Passage Tomb, Sunday 6th March 2016
The Society organised a trip down to Knockroe Passage Tomb in Co. Kilkenny and was led by Professor Muiris O'Sullivan. The bus left UCD at 9:30am with members of the Archaeology Society. We visited the passage tomb and Professor Muiris O'Sullivan talked to us about both the tomb, its excavation and also gave us some insight into the area itself. We also visited a graveyard with a holy well said to be able to cure headaches. Even though there was a little bit of rain on and off throughout the day, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we are very thankful to Muiris for leading the trip. We all arrived back in UCD by 5pm.

  • Halloween Samhain Festival of Fire, Saturday 31st October 2015

On Saturday 31st October the Society went on a trip to the Hill of Ward for the Samhain Festival of Fire. The bus left UCD at 5pm in order to be in Athboy for 7pm. We went to the festival and gathered around the fire and watched all of celebrations (as well as taking part in some of the chanting). We then stopped off in a local pub for a couple of drinks and a chat before leaving at 10:30pm to be back in UCD for 12am. This trip was very successful and a good way to celebrate Halloween - right where it started!
